OPINION:
The politicalization of America’s military has been evident for decades, but the latest revelation, that Gen. Mark A. Milley had been secretly talking to his Chinese counterpart of his concerns over his then commander in chief (Donald Trump) is an immediate and fireable offense.
That the current president has “full confidence” in Milley is proof that this insidious development is endorsed, even applauded, by elected Washington politicians. It is only fair to wonder whether Biden would be so ’confident’ if he had discovered Milley behaving this way during Biden’s tenure.
Finally, that no American general has ever been fired for the decades-long malfeasance in Iraq or Afghanistan should convince any rational adult that our military leadership are AWOL when it comes to protecting the interests of all Americans. They are also remiss when it comes to honoring their pledge to protect and defend.
No, regrettably, dangerously, military apointments and success are more about personal political expediency than the safety of our nation. And this is more important than any other headline-grabbing diversion.
