Herd immunity was never in the cards for the COVID-19 vaccines, and if you want to know why just ask your local veterinarian (“Biden admits herd immunity is a mirage,” Web, Sept. 29). In fact, a veterinarian who works in animal agriculture has direct experience with what you are witnessing, as these “leaky,” non-sterilizing vaccines are administered across the population.

One of the most deadly viruses in poultry is Marek’s disease. There is also Infectious Bronchitis Virus (IBV), and for cattle we have Bovine Respiratory Disease due to BCoV, a coronavirus comparable to SARS-CoV-2. The approach in the infected-animal populations is to administer a similarly “leaky” vaccine to the whole flock or herd and keep them sequestered, with multiple boosters, while they replicate and leak the virus. In fact, one study for Marek’s disease measured a 10,000-fold increase in virus transmission rates for the vaccinated compared to the unvaccinated birds. In that particular study all the unvaccinated birds died within 10 days. So much for vaccine-induced herd immunity.

Leaky vaccines force the evolution of more and more infectious variants that then circulate and reinfect both the vaccinated and unvaccinated populations. If you really get lucky, the evolutionary driving effect of the vaccines might lead to recombinations, achieving much greater virulence.

For those who have been treating this debacle like politics and are following their leader, you are quite literally part of the herd. The next stop for you is the slaughterhouse.
