I was appalled with the wording of the headline on the front page of Wednesday’s Washington Times: “Beer and Benjamins: States try incentives for vaccine holdouts” (May 5).”Benjamins” is incredibly derogatory slang vulgarly associated with Jewish people.

Several years ago, Rep. Ilhan Omar used the same word and was immediately criticized by your paper, as well as by several hosts on FOX News. I am very disappointed in your editorial oversight to have allowed such a heinous headline. There is so much ugliness, including anti-Semitism, throughout the U.S. and the world that this headline really packed an unwanted gut punch.

I sincerely hope this was an unintentional oversight and that similar slang will be avoided by The Washington Times in the future. I have been a very longtime subscriber because I want to read the “other” side of the major issues.
