I’m trans and identify as a female. I don’t see this as doublespeak or as being “woke” (“Today’s religion of Wokeism ignores logic, science and reason,” and “Parents must push back against progressives’ doublethink,” Web, May 23), Yes, I was born male and have a Y chromosome; there’s no denying that my biological sex is male, and unlike some I would never refer to this fact as “assigned at birth.” That just doesn’t make sense. Gender is a social construct. It refers to behaviors and feelings, and is more of a science than religion, upon which the writers of these two op-eds expound.

The authors of these two columns want “readers to follow the science,” but then go on to discuss religion and belief in a god, which is simply not science. There isn’t proof that a god or gods actually exist; religion is rooted solidly only in faith. I won’t say that god doesn’t exist, simply that I see no evidence. But just as the authors believe in the word of god, I believe in gender. Neither is truly provable at this point in time, anyway.

Just for the record, I’m not a woke leftist; I’m just the opposite. I’m a veteran, a former Special Forces operator, a firearms enthusiast, a former competitor and a hunter. I can see no reason whatsoever to not simply allow trans people to exist and have the same liberties everyone else takes for granted. I lost the use of my legs in service to this country. I simply ask to exist as an equal.
