OPINION:
Rep. Liz Cheney nods her establishment head in unison with those who label Donald Trump’s complaints about the election false and a “BIG LIE” (“Princess Cheney peddles another ’BIG LIE,’” Web, May 11).
In reality, the BIG LIE is Ms. Cheney’s claim that the election was lawful and the winner certain, when courts dismissed President Trump’s claims on procedural minutiae, never on the merits.
The BIG LIE is that it was OK for votes to be received after deadlines, deposited in drop boxes never approved by state law, or cast by those without required ID or by non-residents.
The BIG LIE is that it was OK for local and state officials to hold their elections under voting rules they changed without the required legislative approval.
The BIG LIE is that Pennsylvania’s overnight swing in the hundreds of thousands of votes and the vote counts that exceeded the number of registered voters didn’t warrant investigation.
The BIG LIE is that it was OK for the courts to ignore 1,000 affidavits by poll workers and local election officials documenting election irregularities.
The BIG LIE is that the Supreme Court ruled on the election’s integrity, even though it flatly refused to hear the claims brought by 17 states (over one-third of the country) that their voters had been disenfranchised by the voting improprieties of other states.
The biggest lie of all is that Mr. Trump incited the Capitol incursion to stop the electoral process. That process was affording him his last chance to convince enough members of the House and Senate to decertify certain states’ votes so Vice President Mike Pence could legally call for new state electors. The disturbance stopped that process cold, wasting Mr. Trump’s last chance.
Geez.
