OPINION:
There are errors in the reporting of and confusion with regard to the source of violence in Jerusalem (“Israeli airstrikes hit Hamas commander’s home, Gaza tunnels,” Web, May 11). I saw one report note the reason for the violence in Jerusalem as Israel moving Arabs out of the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood so Jews could take it over.
The real reason for the eviction was these Arabs’ failure to pay rent for a substantial period. They denied poverty but did say they also deny Israeli sovereignty of their area. Their goal was to demonstrate Palestinian nationalism. However, by law people have to pay rent or face the consequences.
