AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Maine’s young hunters are out looking for wild turkeys.
Youth Spring Wild Turkey Day is Saturday. The day marks the beginning of the spring turkey hunt, which takes place in Maine and most of the country every year.
Young hunters are allowed to take up to two bearded wild turkeys with a shotgun, bow and arrow or crossbow in most of the state. The state rules say junior hunters with a valid junior hunting license are allowed to participate in youth day.
The regular season for spring turkeys starts on Monday and runs through June 5.
