LIVERMORE FALLS, Maine (AP) - Police set up roadblocks, students were dismissed from school, and a tactical team arrived to surround a home where someone broke inside and took hostages on Monday, police said.
Four people were inside the home, but several escaped and only one was being held as of early Monday evening, 12 hours after a man entered the home at 5:25 a.m., police said.
Police were negotiating with the man to secure the release of the final hostage and to end the incident peacefully.
Local, county, state and federal law enforcement authorities were at the scene, along with a state police armored tactical vehicle. Spruce Mountain school students were dismissed because of the situation, officials said.
