Megyn Kelly has a message for the Duchess of Sussex: Don’t wear “blood diamonds” and cajole celebrity strangers to attend events before claiming a disdain for royal pomp and circumstance.
The journalist made the comments about Meghan Markle and her husband Harry’s Sunday interview with Oprah Winfrey, which covered their exit from royal duties.
Allegations of racism within the royal family and other lamentations involving Prince Andrew and Queen Elizabeth II went viral across social media.
“What I saw tonight was somebody who’s totally un-self-aware,” Ms. Kelly told “Good Morning Britain.” “I mean, completely unaware of how she sounded. Right? Like, ’I wasn’t planning on saying anything shocking — except for my husband’s racist family almost drove me to suicidal thoughts while I was pregnant with my baby.’ And then she goes on to say ’I don’t believe in any of the grandeur.’”
She then told GMB’s Piers Morgan that such claims were hypocritical and absurd.
“This is the person who had [George] Clooney and Oprah at her wedding even though she didn’t even know them,” Ms. Kelly said. “And then covered herself in blood diamonds from the Saudi Prince. So, like, spare us that you’re not into any of the grandeur.”
The “Megyn Kelly Show” podcast host’s comment was in reference to a gift from de facto Saudi Arabian leader Crown Prince Mohammed bin Sultan, whom U.S. intelligence agencies concluded approved the killing of American-based Saudi dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
The British press also blasted the Duchess for wearing the diamond earrings on a trip to Fiji in October 2018.
“And then while she’s spinning this tale about how tough she had it the castle, how lonely she was in the castle, she’s painting herself in sort of these adorations. Like, ’It was incredibly courageous about me to come forward about my depression and I just love saving things.’ It was just peppered with these compliments of herself while she was making these complaints that will be totally unrelatable to 99% of the people out there.”
“I couldn’t have put that better myself,” replied Mr. Morgan.
‘She’s painting herself in adorations while she was making complaints that will be totally unreliable to 99% of people.’
