OPINION:
D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and exclusively Democrats desperately want D.C. to become a state. But as long as there is the 23rd Amendment to our U.S. Constitution, which gives the people in D.C. the right to vote for the president (ratified in 1961), Congress cannot legislate D.C. statehood. As with the 18th Amendment, repealed by the 21st Amendment, so must the language of the 23rd Amendment be removed before Congress can act. Simply put, the cart can’t come before the horse.
D.C. residents, try not to fret about “Taxation Without Representation.” In Maryland, we have representation and lots of taxation.
