BAR HARBOR, Maine (AP) - Acadia National Park rangers had to summon a helicopter to rescue a Maine man trapped on ice on the Precipice Trail.
Officials say the 26-year-old Belfast man called for help after getting stuck on an icy vertical face on Wednesday. He had wedged himself against a tree to avoid sliding and suffering major injuries.
The conditions would’ve made for a difficult technical rescue by rangers, so a Maine National Guard helicopter assisted. The man was airlifted to a nearby ballfield where he declined medical treatment.
It was the man’s first time visiting the park and he did not have any type of crampons or traction control devices, officials said.
