BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Some Burlington High School students are back in class on Thursday inside a former department store after the school was shut down in September because high levels of PCBs were found in one of the buildings.

“We are opening our doors and welcoming our students to what is now our new home of Downtown BHS,” Lauren McBride, the school’s interim principal, said.

The first day is more about getting used to the renovated Macy’s building than learning, WCAX-TV reported.

There will be orientation, meeting with homeroom teachers and even covering some of the old retail space, the news station reported.

The school is still in a hybrid model of learning during the pandemic so only half the students will be there on Thursday. The other half will be in school on Friday.
