DOVER, Del. (AP) - The state of Delaware has received 8,000 doses of the newly approved Johnson & Johnson vaccine for the coronavirus.

The Delaware State News reported Tuesday that the one-dose inoculation is expected to be administered starting this weekend.

State health officials are sending out invitations to its waiting list for vaccination events at Seaford High School on Saturday and the Delaware City Division of Motor Vehicles on Sunday. These events will be by appointment only.

The Johnson & Johnson vaccine is the third federally approved vaccine but the first to be one dose. The previous two, Pfizer and Moderna, are two-dose vaccines.

Dr. Karyl Rattay, director of the Delaware Division of Public Health, said people should take the first vaccine that becomes available.

“When you get that first available opportunity, please take advantage of it, regardless of the vaccine type,” he said.
