Compassion does not remedy lawless behavior (“Biden’s illegal immigration agenda creates another child smuggling crisis,” Web, March 15). Illegal immigration is lawlessness. The word illegal means contrary or forbidden by law.

The meaning behind the parable of the Good Shepherd could apply to illegal immigrants. In the gospel of John, chapter 10, verse one, Jesus said, “Anyone who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and robber.” The United States is the sheep pen. The gate is the legal border-entry point.

Worse than being a thief and robber are adult immigrants who involve children in lawless behavior. No respectable adult of high moral character would contribute to the delinquency of a minor child. Such immigrants are not the “huddled masses yearning to breathe free” described on the Statue of Liberty plaque; they are wrongdoers who blatantly disrespect the law.

Compassion is for the law-abiding immigrant, not those who are lawless.
