While I understand Kay James’ point in “Biden’s illegal immigration agenda creates another child smuggling crisis” (Web, March 15), it’s inconsistent with the views of the vast majority of Americans. While “many average Americans … support more open immigration policies and amnesty programs … out of a sense of compassion,” most do not support illegal immigration — nor do they support amnesty. A recent poll confirms that a majority of Americans are against amnesty for illegal aliens.

Dave Ramsey recently tweeted, “Common sense is now so rare, having it is like having a superpower.” What about the terms “illegal” and “unemployed American citizens” do the governing elites of both major political parties fail to understand?

Those in codependent relationships stay out of “compassion” but need emotional distance to be healthy. We need emotional distance from the compassion-supports-illegal-behavior line. Compassion is found in orderly, legal immigration. It’s not warranted for those who push to the front of the line, regardless of age.

It’s not about illegal-immigrant children, either. Common sense dictates they are the responsibility of their parents, not U.S. government largesse. It’s about following the laws of our country. It’s about our children and their futures.
