Yes, President Biden is the architect of this latest assault on our sovereignty (“Biden’s illegal immigration agenda creates another child smuggling crisis,” Web, March 15). However, we must also address Kay James’ comment that many Americans support a more generous immigration policy because they are “compassionate.” Unfortunately, these “compassionate” expansionists are failing to show any compassion for their fellow citizens, who are forced to compete with foreign workers — legal and illegal — for jobs and wages.

Mass immigration has corresponded with long-term trends of stagnant wages, widening inequality, waning class mobility and increased housing costs. Our governing class has a lot of work to do to secure the opportunity for America’s children to “make better lives for themselves and their families.” Stopping the border crisis and refocusing on the national interest are necessary first steps.

Thank you, Missouri Sens. Josh Hawley and Roy Blunt for supporting our immigration laws. Missouri Reps. Vicky Hartzler and Blaine Luetkemeyer, where do you stand?
