BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (AP) - There will be no rocket’s red glare at Battle Creek Bombers baseball games.
Battle Creek city officials have banned fireworks shows, noting there’s a risk of perchlorates migrating into the drinking water system, WOOD-TV reported. They’re a contaminant found in rocket fuel, ammunition and other explosives, including fireworks.
“My responsibility is to make decisions that take into account the 50,000 people that we service with water,” said public works director Carl Fedders.
The Bombers play in the Northwoods League, which is made up of college baseball players. Home games are played at C.O. Brown Stadium.
“We’re very disappointed obviously for ourselves, for our fans, for the city of Battle Creek,” general manager Tyler Shore said. “I think anyone in minor league and summer collegiate baseball would tell you, fireworks are the biggest promotion that you can do.”
The Bombers are working on other types of entertainment.
