MECHANIC FALLS, Maine (AP) - A police officer who helped pull a driver from a burning vehicle acted as though it was no big deal, his chief said.
Aryn Johnson, 19, was pulled to safety after his car caught fire after a crash in Wednesday in Mechanic Falls.
A police cruiser dash cam captured the moment officer Andre Chasse pulled Johnson from the burning vehicle. A passerby helped.
“He was just like, ‘Yeah, I had to pull the guy out of the vehicle.’ And he made it seem like it wasn’t any big thing. But I watched the video and I was totally impressed with his actions,” Mechanic Falls Police Chief Jeffrey Goss told WGME-TV.
Johnson, who was released from the hospital Thursday, said he doesn’t remember much of the crash or rescue.
“I don’t even know what he looks like,” Johnson said of his rescuer. “I’m blessed that he saved me, though. I appreciate him and the person who stopped on the side of the road heading to work to come help me.”
