Rapper Cardi B says critics of her lewd “WAP” performance at this year’s Grammy Awards should “stop expecting celebs to raise your kids.”
The “Invasion of Privacy” singer told her 86 million Instagram followers that her work is meant for adults who appreciate her “freaky” side, not for children.
“I don’t make music for kids I make music for adults,” she wrote in response to the uproar over her performance with Megan Thee Stallion. “Parents are responsible on [sic] what their children listen too [sic] or see… I’m a very sexual person but not around my child just like every other parent should be. … My daughter doesn’t need to listen to music to be empowered neither should your children. … I never ever said that WAP was made to empower women. I’m just a freaky person and this is not the first sex song ever made. Stop expecting celebs to raise your kids.”
The rapper also relished the coverage by conservative commentator Candace Owens’ appearance on Foxs News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight.”
“We made it on Fox News, guy!” she exclaimed. “Wap wap wap.”Matter [of] fact I’m just going to thank Candy (Owens) She put my performance on Fox News giving it more views that boosted the views on YouTube and is counting towards my streams and sales.”
Ratings for the March 14 event — with a time-zone-adjusted low audience number of 8.8 million — constituted a 53% drop from the 18.7 million who tuned in to last year’s program.
An FCC spokesperson told The Wrap that complaints after the broadcast did not exceed an “average amount for this type of event.”
