According to a recent fact sheet released by the White House, one of President Biden’s initiatives to declare national independence from COVID-19 by July 4 is to “expand the pool of qualified professionals” injecting Americans with the vaccine to include veterinarians (“’America is coming back’: Biden targets July 4 for virus ’independence,’” Web, March 11).

This scenario, like so many others, was perfectly foreshadowed by the creators of “Seinfeld” 25 years ago. In one episode of the sitcom the lovable rogue Kramer professes the superiority of veterinarians over physicians, only to be advised by his health care provider of choice that his symptoms may be attributable to drizznking from the toilet. Which isn’t to say receiving a shot from a vet is a bad idea — at least until the point at which you’re fitted with a cone.
