Musicians who took Grammy gold this year couldn’t lift the awards ceremony above ratings brown Sunday evening.

Early numbers for the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards put the Nielsen Live+Same Day fast-affiliate numbers at 7.88 million average viewers during the broadcast.

The entertainment magazine Variety reported “new lows in early numbers” as media trackers wait for a confirmation of West Coast numbers.

“In comparison, the time-zone adjusted fast national charts for 2020’s Grammy Awards drew a 5.4 rating in the key demo and 18.7 million viewers,” the magazine reported. “The 2019 Grammy Awards drew a 5.6 rating and 19.9 million viewers. The least-watched Grammys was the host-less awards ceremony in 2006, which snagged 17 million viewers.”

The event was hosted by Comedy Central host Trevor Noah.

Musicians such as Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, Harry Styles, Taylor Swift, and Megan Thee Stallion were prominently featured.
