KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) - Kansas City, Kansas police said a woman trying to help a car crash victim was hit and killed during another crash Sunday.
An SUV was traveling south on North 59th Street at Nogard Avenue when a sedan driving the opposite direction hit it around 3 a.m. Sunday, Kansas City, Kansas police spokeswoman Nancy Chartrand told the Kansas City Star.
Chartrand said the sedan stopped about a block away, and then the driver and passengers fled on foot.
A woman in her 50s stopped to check on the SUV’s driver. Chartrand said the woman was out of her car standing when the SUV was struck again by a pickup truck. She was also hit and declared dead at the scene.
The SUV driver was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Chartrand said the pickup truck driver was taken into police custody.
