Recently, President Biden removed the Iranian-supported Houthi militia from the list of foreign terrorist organizations (“Biden moves ahead with delisting Iran-backed Houthis as terrorists,” Web, Feb. 12). This was done to permit humanitarian relief to reach the civilian population in areas of Yemen that are under Houthi control. Unfortunately, what followed has been an increase of Houthi fighters shooting Iranian missiles into Saudi Arabia. For the 10 days following the change in designation, missiles were fired into Saudi Arabia.

Mr. Biden should recognize that in comparison to Iran and its terrorist proxies, Saudi Arabia is much better. While someone in the Saudi government did order the murder of an American journalist in Istanbul, this is very mild compared to the large number of murders and wide-scale terrorism perpetrated by Iran. Iran is now the biggest supporter of terrorism in the world.

As an analogy, during World War II President Roosevelt supplied military equipment to the Soviet Union, knowing full well that Joseph Stalin had murdered millions of his citizens. However, Stalin’s Red Army was fighting the Nazi Army, and Hitler had declared war on America. They were a greater threat to us than Stalin. Clearly, Roosevelt made the correct choice.

Despite blemishes on the Saudis’ record, they are still far better than the Iranian government.
