GARDEN GROVE, Calif. (AP) - Three people died Friday in Southern California when a speeding truck hit another car, plowed through a wall and landed upside down in a swimming pool, authorities said.

Police spotted the Dodge Ram truck speeding in a parking lot shortly after 2 a.m. in Garden Grove and followed it until it hit another car át an intersection a few minutes later, police said.

The truck then sheared off a fire hydrant, sending a fountain of water into the air, slammed through a block wall and crashed upside down in a residential swimming pool, Orange County fire officials said.

Firefighters used a camera to search the truck and confirmed that the male driver died at the scene. Police said the body of a second man, a passenger, was found some nine hours later as the truck was being removed from the pool.

The car that was struck rolled over and the driver was pronounced dead at a hospital, authorities said.

Authorities didn’t immediately determine whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
