COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The University of South Carolina says it intends to hold in-person commencement ceremonies in the spring.
On Wednesday, the school announced graduation ceremonies would be held for spring 2021 bachelor’s, master’s and professional degree candidates between May 7-8 at Williams Brice Stadium. In addition, an in-person recognition ceremony for May and December 2020 graduates will take place on May 15 at the stadium, WCIV-TV reported.
Each ceremony will require physical distancing between guests and mandatory face coverings. Each graduate will be allowed to have five guests attend.
“We are excited to safely celebrate your accomplishments along with your families and loved ones,” said university President Bob Caslen. “We made this decision in consultation with our public health experts, and each ceremony will be conducted with the proper risk mitigation measures to ensure the safety of our graduates and guests.”
More than 8,000 students will be graduating from across the entire UofSC system this May.
