OPINION:
Iran’s President-elect Ebrahim Raisi has indulged in the usual gambit for attempting to improve his bargaining position by refusing to meet with our president (“Biden’s dangerous game with Iran,” Web, June 23).
Mr. Raisi’s reluctance to deal with the possible savior of the Iranian economy is both wise for Iran and him, but also a dangerous ploy. If he thinks continuing to remain aloof from talks with our president has improved or will improve his bargaining position, he is sadly mistaken. Instead, the studied insult may have strengthened Biden’s resolve to increase the pressure and the terms in any final agreement Iran has with the U.S.
