OPINION:
The June 17 article “‘Obamacare’ survives: Supreme Court dismisses big challenge” (Web) appropriately draws attention to the 33.2 million Americans who as of 2019 did not have adequate health-care coverage. We at NAKASEC VA appreciate the article addressing this fact in light of the Supreme Court’s vote to uphold the Affordable Care Act.
With President Biden’s plan to expand the ACA and provide health-care coverage to all Americans, it is necessary that we do not overlook our immigrant community. Their need for high-quality, affordable health care has only been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, but many remain ineligible under the ACA. In Virginia 58 percent of all non-citizens who are undocumented are uninsured. The HEAL for Immigrant Families Act will provide DACA recipients as well as undocumented immigrants access to health care. By highlighting the HEAL Act we can work to remove unnecessary barriers and provide coverage for immigrant families through the ACA.
Urge your representatives and senators today to support the HEAL Act and ensure that everyone has access to health care.
