OPINION:
I recently located a chart online listing over 60 places/times when a valid personal ID is required. Examples include renting a car, purchasing a car, making bank transactions, obtaining a passport, visiting a doctor or hospital, getting a prescription, securing a job, applying for welfare and applying for unemployment.
It is simply common sense to require voters to have valid ID. But Democrats object to requiring an ID to vote, saying it is too hard for some to obtain, and in Virginia they een repealed a voter-ID requirement.
But claiming that some people are unable to get a voter ID is demeaning and insulting. In fact, considering all the areas where IDs are necessary for routine daily tasks, Democrats’ opposition to requiring them for voting would be laughable — if voting weren’t so important to our democracy.
Hopefully Republicans will have a landslide victory come midterm elections so we can increase the integrity of voting, including voter ID.
