WETUMPKA, Ala. (AP) - An Alabama hospital on Tuesday will open a permanent drive-thru clinic.

Elmore Community Hospital’s clinic in Wetumpka will be open from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. five days a week, WSFA-TV reported. S pokeswoman Heidi Smith said the clinic is designed to try to help COVID-19 patients but also to help local clinics that are overwhelmed. She said some clinics are having extended wait times because they are taking COVID-19 patients but are also dealing with the regular health issues that the clinics treat.

The new clinic will be supervised by Ivy Creek Healthcare.

Patients must preregister and cannot show up unscheduled.
