WILMERDING, Pa. (AP) - A man who opened fire on police detectives in western Pennsylvania was in custody and no one was injured, authorities said.

The shooting unfolded Thursday night when detectived assigned to the Violent Crime and Firearms Squad observed Matthew Diggs, 20, walking and they believed he was armed, Allegheny County Police said.

According to police, Diggs opened fire when two officers tried to speak with him and the bullets struck their police vehicle. The officers returned fire as Diggs fled.



No one was injured.

Diggs was apprehended and was being charged with criminal attempt homicide, aggravated assault, aggravated assault on a police officer and a firearm violation. It could not be determined if he had restained a lawyer.
