BALTIMORE (AP) - The death of a 4-year-old boy in Maryland last year has been ruled a homicide after authorities determined he died of intoxication from methadone, an opioid-withdrawal medication.

Officers were called to John Hopkins Hospital on Oct. 30 for a report of the child’s death, Baltimore police said Wednesday in a news release. The boy, Deyonte Davis, had been pronounced dead by doctors. Police did not say how the boy got to the hospital.

Investigators did not see signs of foul play to his body, which was transported to a medical examiner’s office for an autopsy. Police were notified about the cause of his death on Tuesday.
