SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - A Wisconsin man serving a life sentence for the killing of his girlfriend’s abusive mother has asked a judge to set aside the criminal case that led to his conviction.
An attorney for Nicholas Godejohn, 31, of Big Bend, Wisconsin, made the request in post-conviction motions filed Dec. 29, The Springfield News-Leader reported.
He was convicted in the 2015 murder of Dee Dee Blanchard, the mother of Gypsy Blanchard, who persuaded Littlejohn to come from Wisconsin to kill her mother. Gypsy Blanchard told authorities said her mother forced her to use a wheelchair and undergo unnecessary medical tests for years to collect gifts and charitable donations.
Gypsy Blanchard was sentenced to 10 years in prison for her role in the June 9, 2015, death of her mother.
After appeals are exhausted, post-conviction relief allows a prisoner to make a few specific legal claims, often including challenging the representation of his or her attorneys.
Public defender Jenny Young declined on Tuesday to comment on what Godejohn and his attorneys might argue in a hearing on the motion.
