FRANKLIN, Ky. (AP) - A new welcome center along the northbound lanes of Interstate 65 has opened on the Kentucky-Tennessee state line.

The center in Simpson County aims to make motorists feel at home as they travel into the Bluegrass State, the Kentucky Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet said in a statement.

The red brick Federal style building has stone trim and features front porches with comfortable benches and rocking chairs, the statement said. The center has more restrooms, including family-friendly facilities, a variety of vending options and ecofriendly drinking fountains designed to refill water bottles. The building is compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The new center replaces one that was built in 1974 and demolished last year. It is expected to welcome around 60,000-70,000 visitors each year.
