EVERETT, Wash. (AP) - A gymnastics coach was arrested Friday for investigation of voyeurism and possession of child pornography, according to the Everett Police Department.

The investigation began in December, when a 10-year-old student at Leading Edge Gymnastics Academy told a coach about a suspicious box in the bathroom, The Daily Herald reported.

Staff reportedly found a cellphone in the box pointing at the toilets.

The head coach called 911 and reportedly showed the male suspect the box, told him not to touch it and briefly left. When officers arrived the phone was missing, police said.

The coach, a volunteer, denied that he took the phone and offered to let police search his phone, police said.

Another phone was found wedged under a bathroom sink at the academy in October 2019, police said. The phone was locked and has remained in evidence, awaiting the possibility that a suspect would be identified.

Police said detectives have now confirmed it belonged to the same volunteer coach. Three concerning videos were found on the first phone, two of which are believed to have been made in a bathroom at the academy, police said.

The third video depicted child pornography, police said.
