NORTHUMBERLAND, N.H. (AP) - A woman died of smoke inhalation following a fire in a residential building in Northumberland, firefighters said.

Janet Deforrest, 70, died Friday, the state medical examiner’s office said. The manner of death is accidental.

The fire was reported Friday morning.



New Hampshire Deputy State Fire Marshal Keith Rodenhiser said another person escaped the fire and was taken to a hospital as a precaution, WMUR-TV reported.

The cause and origin of the fire at the two-and-a-half-story building was not immediately known.
