BARNEGAT, N.J. (AP) - Authorities have identified two people killed in what they said was a wrong-way crash on the Garden State Parkway in New Jersey on New Year’s morning.
State police said 25-year-old Emily Soc of Ewing Township was driving a car south in the northbound lanes of the parkway when she collided with a sport utility vehicle at about 7:45 a.m. Friday in Barnegat Township, Ocean County.
Police said both Soc and the SUV driver, 61-year-old Colleen Roche of Barnegat, were killed. The Asbury Park Press reported that one vehicle overturned and some fire was reported in the other.
Police said no passengers or other drivers were involved. They said the investigation continues and no further details were provided, for example how the car entered the road or the estimated speed of the vehicles.
