CARLSBAD, N.M. (AP) - A parole violator has been arrested on multiple charges after he allegedly injured two Eddy County sheriff’s detectives when he rammed their patrol vehicle while trying to elude them in Carlsbad, the New Mexico State Police said Friday.

The each officer fired at least one shot at the suspect Wednesday afternoon but he wasn’t hit and continued to attempt to flee before his vehicle became disabled from the crash and caught on fire, state police said.

EJ G. Kincaid, 29, of Carlsbad and both officers were taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries suffered when Kincaid rammed the patrol SUV with his tan Dodge pickup truck.

Upon his release, Kincaid was booked into the Eddy County jail on suspicion of aggravated battery on a peace officer with a deadly weapon, aggravated fleeing, leaving the scene of an accident with injuries and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was wanted on a warrant for a parole violation and absconding.

It’s not clear if he has a lawyer or will be appointed one at a pending court appearance.

The New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau is investigating the officer-involved shooting at the request of the sheriff’s office.
