WILLARD, Mo. (AP) - A homeowner in southwestern Missouri shot and killed a suspect in a home invasion early Thursday, sheriff’s officials there said.

The break-in happened around 4 a.m. Thursday in a residential area near Willard, Springfield television station KYTV reported. That’s when Greene County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the home for a report of a burglary in progress.

When deputies arrived at the home, the found a man dead inside, officials said. The homeowner told investigators that the man broke into the home and attacked him, detectives said. Deputies said the homeowner killed the man in a struggle, but have not said how the man was killed.

The homeowner is being treated for injuries not believed to be life-threatening, officials said, and two other people inside the home during the break-in were not injured. Authorities have not identified the man killed or the homeowner.

Investigators were trying to determine if a pickup truck found in a ditch behind the house is connected to the incident.
