ST. LOUIS (AP) - St. Louis prosecutors are accusing a man of fatally shooting another man in a rent dispute, then dumping the body near a Mississippi River bridge.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that 51-year-old Lamont Johnson was jailed Thursday on charges of second-degree murder, armed criminal action and evidence tampering. He is held without bond.

Charging documents say Johnson shot 57-year-old Charles Braxton on Jan. 3 when Braxton showed up at Johnson’s home to collect rent. Braxton’s body was found Jan. 13 under the Poplar Street Bridge in East St. Louis, Illinois.

Police sy in court papers that Johnson shot Braxton when the two men quarreled over the payment, then wrapped Braxton’s body in a rug and drove to East St. Louis to hide the body under debris.
