MARTINSVILLE, Va. (AP) - A Virginia man has been charged with first-degree murder in a fatal shooting at the victim’s home, a sheriff’s office said.
Taylor Paige Thomas, 23, of Axton is being held in Henry County Jail after investigators say he shot and killed Jeremiah Jerron Turner, 20, in his Martinsville home on Monday, according to a news release from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.
The news release said Thomas surrendered to authorities and is jailed without bond. It’s not known if Thomas has an attorney to represent him.
The charges followed a call to 911 around 1:47 p.m. Monday that shots had been fired on Lakewood Park Drive, the news release said. Investigators from the sheriff’s office said Thomas had gone to Turner’s house, knocked on the door and then went inside. The news release said it was there that Thomas met Turner, and the two of them went into a bedroom. The investigators say that shortly after Thomas entered the bedroom, multiple gunshots were fired and Thomas fled.
Turner’s body was sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the Western District of Virginia in Roanoke for an autopsy.
Investigators haven’t revealed a motive for the shooting.
