GAINESVILLE, Ga, (AP) - A north Georgia woman has been arrested on charges that she stole about $107,000 from the church where she worked.
The Hall County Sheriff’s Office said 49-year-old Alycia Christy turned herself in on a felony theft charge on Jan. 15.
Hall County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Derreck Booth told The Times of Gainesville that Christy worked as an administrative assistant at Northlake Baptist Church and took funds from the church between January 2018 and January of this year. Investigators said she used the money to pay credit card bills.
Booth said Christy had access to the church’s bank account in her capacity as an assistant.
Christy was released Sunday on $22,200 bail. No attorney is listed for her, and a phone number listed for Christy doesn’t work.
The church declined comment beyond confirming that an employee was fired and arrested.
