TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - The Pima County Sheriff’s Department says a 47-year-old inmate being treated for COVID-19 complications died Wednesday at a hospital.

The department did not release the inmate’s identity but said the inmate had been in custody since January 2020 on charges of drug possession for sale, child abuse, aggravated DUI and other crimes.

According to the department, the inmate tested positive for COVID-19 on Dec. 29 and was placed in the jail infirmary for treatment before transported to a hospital on Jan. 14.
