COLLINGSWOOD, N.J. (AP) - Authorities have upgraded the charges filed against a 14-year-old boy accused of punching a 94-year-old man who later died.
The teen was initially charged with aggravated assault and endangerment following the Jan. 3 attack in the lobby of a Collingswood apartment complex. according to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office. The victim, Anthony Donofrio, suffered blunt force trauma and died a week later, and his death was ruled a homicide.
Authorities have said the boy was among a group of teens playing in the lobby. When Donofrio walked by the group, authorities said the boy ran toward him and punched him in the side of the head and shoved him to the ground.
They have not said what spurred the attack, which was captured on surveillance video.
The teen, whose name has not been released, was charged Tuesday with murder and endangering an injured victim. He was being held at a juvenile facility, and it wasn’t known if he’s retained an attorney.
