LAS VEGAS (AP) - Firefighters in Las Vegas are putting out any lingering hot spots of a blaze that destroyed an apartment complex that had been under construction.
Fire officials say the fire was reported late Monday night in a neighborhood in southwest Las Vegas. Fueled by gusty winds, it took 100 firefighters from more than one jurisdiction to help extinguish it.
Authorities ended up evacuating several nearby residents when embers spread over several blocks.
No injuries were reported.
Clark County Assistant Fire Chief Scott Carnahan told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that the wood and other construction materials also drove the fire.
He says the cause of the fire was not immediately known. The investigation remains ongoing.
The 206-unit luxury apartment complex had been about half-way finished.
Clark County Deputy Fire Chief Warren Whitney said the structure is a complete loss and the damage could be anywhere between $25 million and $30 million.
