OPINION:
We know that Alexander Hamilton and many others disagreed with Thomas Jefferson and James Madison about “the people.” Hamilton insisted that the people couldn’t be trusted to preserve their own rights, freedom and liberty. Since the passage of the 17th Amendment we have seen just how right he was.
If the 17th Amendment isn’t abolished, then the Senate should be. Why? It no longer serves the purpose for which it was created. The states no longer have supervision over the federal government through their “appointees” to the Senate.
The term of a House representative could be increased to four years and that term could coincide with the election of a president.
Just think of the savings the Americans people would see from getting rid of 100 senators, their staff and offices.
