ESCONDIDO, Calif. (AP) - A pet dog was saved from an apartment fire in San Diego County when the resident, who was away, remotely checked a security camera and saw smoke.

The fire occurred Wednesday morning in Escondido, Fire Battalion Chief Jeff Sargis told The San Diego Union-Tribune.

The resident reported the fire to 911 and told dispatchers there was a dog inside.

Crews didn’t see fire or smoke coming from the apartment when they arrived, but then observed smoke on the inside of a sliding glass door.

“We were able to get in there and rescue the dog,” Sargis said.

The fire was put out in 20 minutes but there were no injuries.
