TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - An Arizona State University police officer died Thursday after his motorcycle crashed on a Tempe freeway, authorities said.

Campus police said Officer Joseph Montgomery was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Arizona Department of Public Safety officials said Montgomery appeared to have struck a wall while exiting a ramp on the Loop 101. but the cause of the crash wasn’t immediately known.



ASU police said Montgomery was a 13-year veteran of the department and is survived by his wife and four children.

Gov. Doug Ducey has ordered flags at all state buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset Friday to honor Montgomery.
