BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - The interim high school principal in Vermont’s largest city has resigned and a national search will be launched to find a permanent principal, Burlington School District officials say.
Noel Green resigned from the Burlington High School post on Friday. Superintendent Tom Flanagan said in a letter to high school families, students and staff on Sunday that Assistant Principal Lauren McBride will serve as acting principal. Flanagan did not say why Green had resigned. Green could not be reached for comment; there is no phone listing in his name.
The district’s Board of School Commissioners said it was “surprised” by Green’s resignation and said that Flanagan was planning to recommend at Tuesday’s school board meeting that Green’s position become permanent and that Green knew about it and the board supported it.
“We thank Noel most sincerely for his service to our students and community and wish him well in his future endeavors,” the board’s statement said.
Teacher Gayle Botelho will serve as acting assistant principal along with current Assistant Principal Herb Perez.
“Principal McBride and APs Perez and Botelho are smart, passionate, and knowledgeable professionals who have the skills and abilities to help our students and staff navigate our current situation,” Flanagan said.
