SPARKS, Nev. (AP) - Sparks police have identified a jailed suspect they plan to charge with fleeing the scene of an accident where he’s accused of running from a burning car after striking a motorcyclist who died on Tuesday.
Police said 18-year-old Isiah Norwood of Reno intentionally struck the motorcycle at about 7:30 p.m. Friday in a business parking lot near East Prater Way and Sparks Boulevard.
They reported late Tuesday that the motorcyclist died from injuries sustained in the accident and identified him as 19-year-old Thomas Schlesinger of Sparks.
Police say the occupants fled the car on foot after it hit the cycle and caught on fire on East Prater.
Detectives identified Norwood as a suspect and discovered he was in custody on unrelated charges at the Douglas County jail. They say once his charges are satisfied in Douglas County he will be extradited to the Washoe County Jail in Reno where he will face charges of assault with a deadly weapon, battery with a deadly weapon and leaving the scene of any accident.
It’s not clear if he has a lawyer or will be appointed one.
