LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - A Nebraska prison employee has been arrested after authorities accused him of having inappropriate contact with an inmate and of bringing marijuana into the prison system.

The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services said in a news release that 24-year-old Xavier Palomares, who was a corporal at the Diagnostic and Evaluation Center in Lincoln, was arrested Saturday by the Nebraska State Patrol.

He’s been charged in Lancaster County with a count of unauthorized communication with a prisoner and a charge of manufacturing, distributing, dispensing or possessing a controlled substance, according to online court records. There was no attorney listed Tuesday for Palomares in the online records.

The release did not give other details about what led to the charges. Officials said Palomares resigned upon his arrest and was booked into Lancaster County Jail. His initial hearing has been set for March 11.
